I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend! We certainly did.
Thursday, my boss gave us the afternoon off work after a breakfast meeting, so basically my work day consisted of eating delicious breakfast. That's my kind of workday! So, after breakfast, I did some shopping and then came home to hang out with Josh, who also took the afternoon off work. We then headed out, grabbed some Tropical Smoothie, and went to Caroline's school for the 4th of July parade. We sadly missed her parade last year because we were in Barcelona (#firstworldproblems, right?), so we were excited to check it out this year.
GUYS. Babies, toddlers, and kids on parade equals RIDICULOUSLY ADORABLE CUTENESS. And, I may be biased and I may have been staring at only her, but Caroline was THE FUNNIEST, CRAZIEST, MOST PRECIOUS THING THERE. I apologize for the overabundance of capital letters up there but IT'S TRUE. So, they all came out of the school in a line. Some big kids came first carrying the American flag, then the infants followed in strollers, the infant/toddler transition room babies came out in wagons, and then Caroline and her toddler buddies walked out behind them. Most were holding their teachers' hands but not Caroline, she proudly walked on her own and did a great job staying with her group. For the first lap around the parking lot, she didn't notice us. She just paraded around with her cute little pigtails, waving her American flag with pride. PRECIOUS.
The second lap around, she spotted Josh, who had found a good spot for picture taking, and ran toward him. Sadly, this run turned into a fall and she collapsed and he had to rescue her. She recovered quickly and rejoined her friends, until she spotted the dogs other parents had brought. She left the parade to go kiss all of the dogs. Then she spotted me and ran over to give me a hug and a kiss. I told her to, "go to her friends," and she grinned and ran toward them. SUCH A BIG GIRL OMG. It was seriously so fun, her shirt is sooo cute, and I'm so glad we could make it this year.
On 4th of July, we celebrated by going to the playground, getting pizza for lunch, and getting a dozen donuts for an afternoon snack. We are so Patriotic. I also got Caroline her own shovel and rake from Target (70% off Dollar Spot items meant 30 cents each, whoop whoop!), so she did some "gardening" for us. We rented the movie Gravity, which was fantastic (we rented Her the night before, which was amazing as well) and relaxed at home. I spent most of the night sitting in bed hoping our neighbors' fireworks didn't wake up Caroline… such a mom :)
Saturday, we went to Best Buy and got me a
Fit Bit, which keeps track of how active I am during the day and how well I sleep at night. I also log my food into it to keep track of how many calories I'm eating v. how much I'm burning. I want to get more in shape and tone up (especially before our upcoming beach vacation) and it's nice to have a device on my wrist to help me. I've been using it for one day and I love it! Logging all my calories in when I eat is a real wakeup call as to how much I actually eat throughout the day. Pretty cool!
Sunday, we spontaneously decided to go to the
Tallahassee Museum. We have never been and Caroline is at the age where she's really being able to appreciate and experience adventures, so we figured it would be a fun activity. She had SO MUCH FUN. She saw bald eagles, an otter, wolves, a panther, foxes, an alligator, geese, horses, sheep, and more that I'm surely forgetting. She got so excited when we got to a new exhibit and she spotted the animal. Her favorites were definitely the otter (she laughed and screamed SO MUCH) and the silver foxes. She was so concerned that the "doggy" was in the tree. She didn't want to leave them behind because she was so worried. It was absolutely precious. It was a great adventure for her and we'll definitely go again!
I hope everyone's weekends was as nice and relaxing as ours! I think there should be more three-day weekends on the calendar :)
